Manual v.2.1

Cumberland, Kelly and Walker, Michael (2016) Manual v.2.1. [Show/Exhibition]

Central to my practice is an investigation into the nature of a serial body of work, the complex relationships between repetition, reproduction and difference and its manifestations as expanded drawing practice. I am engaged in an on-going collaborative project with artists and gallerists in Palma de Mallorca. The project involves a series of exhibitions and publications. The printed exhibition co-exist to provide relevant exhibition information whilst also contributing as an artwork in its own right. The process of making and documenting exhibitions leads to the development of strategies of dissemination, extending the reach of a body of work, and making new connections. Following on from the previous ‘MANUAL’ projects, including the exhibition at ‘Aba Art Lab’, as part of Nit de l’Art Palma 2015, I participated in ‘Art Palma Brunch’ in April 2016 where this publication was distributed through Aba Art Lab Gallery. This annual spring event has been running for 12 years, it is hosted by art galleries and is organised by the Asociación de Galerías Art Palma Contemporani. The context of the work and the final outcomes were diverse in nature. An on-going collaborative project with a new audience and new networks continue to develop with Art Palma and the gallery ‘Aba Art Lab’ with a view to further collaboration. The exhibition publication has several areas of impact; the development of wider networks in Palma de Mallorca, with an established dialogue with Aba Art Lab. As part the RADAR Mexico Project, I have been selected for two solo exhibitions at Liliput Gallery and Mercado Negro in the city of Puebla, and awarded the ‘best artist’ support grant.
