Royal Academy summer exhibition 2017

Palin, Tom ORCID logoORCID: (2017) Royal Academy summer exhibition 2017. [Show/Exhibition]

This year’s exhibition was co-ordinated by Eileen Cooper (Keeper of the Royal Academy), who set out to explore themes of discovery. The show included over 1200 works. The Summer Exhibition is the world’s oldest open-submission exhibition, and among its earliest exhibitors were Joshua Reynolds, John Constable and Joseph Mallord William Turner. It is held annually at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London. Works include paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, installations, photographs and films. Sales from the show support the Royal Academy Schools; to continue the free tuition that has been offered for nearly 250 years. This year, I exhibited Whistler’s Mother as a Young Woman, oil on five oak panels, hung in Gallery VI. Included were works by Julian Schnabel, Sean Scully, Mark Wallinger, Yinka Shonibare, Farshid Moussavi, Gilbert & George and Isaac Julien.
