Feature article, responding to the event ‘New Writing with New Contemporaries’ at Leeds Art Gallery (9 Nov 2019). Via an exploration of performances by artists Jude Browning, Lucy Rose Cunningham, Freya Dooley, Malachy Harvey, Leo Hermitt and Ruby Lewis the article considers modes and motivations for the use of verbal language in contemporary art.
