Salford pops up

Palin, Tom (2008) Salford pops up. [Show/Exhibition]

Abstract

Salford Pops Up was a group exhibition of paper engineering projects, in response to the city of Salford. The exhibition was organised and curated by Mark Doyle and Fay Taylor. Over the summer of 2008, artist and paper engineer Paul Johnson delivered a series of workshops at the Lowry, Salford, training the artists involved in the technical aspects of the craft of working with paper to construct 3D mechanistic objects. In the three months that followed, the artists were tasked with utilising the knowledge gained in the construction of individual works, to be shown at the Lowry alongside a display of Johnson’s work. The subsequent exhibition was accompanied by a series of paper engineering workshops with schools and the general public led some of the participating artists. Helen Clark, Vicky Clarke, Jack Doyle, Fay Flatt, Maria Francis, Kate Free, Ali Graney, Paul Johnson, Nicola Lynch, Martin Livesey, Tom Palin, Paul Pickford and Isobel Pickup were involved in varying capacities with this project. Only my response is included here, along with a workshop I delivered with Ali Graney during the exhibition period.
